Hertz streamlines damage claim process

Hertz Rent a Car, together with a team of software and operations experts, has developed an app to streamline claim and billing procedures surrounding damage claims to rental vehicles.

Hertz Vehicle Events has been installed on CUBOT (Android) handheld devices. In excess of 120 units are already in use at Hertz locations throughout South Africa and Namibia.

While VE is a multi-faceted app able to facilitate, record and monitor a host of other car rental-related procedures, it’s proving particularly effective in the vehicle damage assessment process.

At time of rental, a pre-rental inspection sheet detailing visible damage is completed by a customer service agent and the onus is on the customer to self-check before signing off. Upon the vehicle’s return, it undergoes a post-rental inspection and should any damage other than that listed be evident, the VE app-enabled CUBOT device comes into play.

The app enables Hertz staff access to the EOCLOUD programme. When loading the damage details onto the handheld device, the programme collates all the information gathered into quote format. This is presented to the client for approval. The repair cost is then captured on Hertz’s car rental management system and upon terming the rental on this system, an invoice for damages is generated and presented to the client on the spot.

In instances where a rental customer denies liability or where a third party is involved, the existing paper-driven claims procedure is followed.
