The quality and variety of accommodation, the attention to detail in service delivery, state-of-the-art conferencing venues, and the vast number of additional activities on offer all guarantee genuine value for money.

ACCESSIBILITY

South Africans don’t need to arrange a visa for Mauritius beforehand. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be issued with a tourist visa that lasts for three months. Travellers must have a valid passport, return ticket and confirmation of address where you will be staying on the island to make this process quick and simple.

There are a number of flights per week out of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on Air Mauritius, South African Airways and British Airways Comair.

The national carrier, Air Mauritius, operates daily flights from Europe and other destinations. For MICE buyers, the national carrier offers:

  • Best Group rates guaranteed.
  • Dedicated account management.
  • Dedicated in-cabin seating at NO additional cost.
  • Branded headrest covers at minimal cost.
  • Free luggage allowance of 2 x 23Kg in economy class and 2 x 32Kg in business class.
  • Dedicated check in desk(s) for groups.
  • Group Business Class lounge access at a discounted fee.
  • Helicopter sightseeing visits, ‘heli-lunches’ or ‘heli-golf’ excursions at preferential group rates.
  • Free carriage of golf clubs, up to 23kg per bag.
ACCOMMODATION

The island offers a large choice of accommodation, with a strong emphasis on luxury properties and a wide range of luxury hotel brands and boutique offerings.

CONFERENCE FACILITIES

Mauritius has an advantage over other MICE destinations in the Indian Ocean in that it houses the region’s largest and most modern convention centre: the Swami Vivekananda Conference Centre in Pailles. This centre provides all the facilities needed for large, international conferences – accommodating up to 5,000 people at any one time. To date, it has hosted many international conferences, including the UN Small Island Developing States Conference.

Other venues include the International Conference Centre in Grand Bay (up to 600 people) and the Freeport Exhibition in Mer Rouge (up to 1,000 delegates). Many Mauritian hotels also offer conferencing facilities and can cater for up to 800 people at a time.

ACTIVITIES

The island boasts a wide variety of activities that can be specifically geared around MICE groups – ranging from golf to adventure sports such as quad-biking, trekking, mountain biking, zip-lining, hunting, kite-surfing, parasailing, canoeing and sky-diving. The island also offers countless stunning outdoor locations for team-building exercises.

WHEN TO VISIT

Mauritius has a tropical climate, with warm weather all year round. The best to visit the island is from May to December, when the weather is cool, dry and sunny. January to March is cyclone season and although this is not optimal beach weather, there are a host of other activities to engage in, such as Marlin fishing as well as the many cultural festivities that take place during this time. Kite surfers can enjoy the best conditions during July and August when the wind is at its strongest on the east coast.
