According to eTNW, FlySafair intends to begin flight services in October, one year after the airline initially planned to take flight, and has opened ticket sales.

FlySafair first opened ticket sales for flights within South Africa, between Johannesburg and Cape Town, in September last year, with the maiden flight scheduled for 17October, 2013. The airline was blocked from launching and forced to re-accommodate and refund passengers after the court granted an interdict sought by competitors Comair and Skywise (see story here).

Now the airline has opened bookings, with its first flight between Cape Town and Johannesburg set for 16 October.

The low-cost carrier is advertising fares starting from $50 between Cape Town and Johannesburg and $40 between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

“These are not just opening specials or marketing showstoppers to announce the start-up,” said Dave Andrew, CEO of FlySafair.
