The first phase of the $1 million refurbishment project at Peermont’s Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club in Secunda, in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, was completed at the end of August.

Refurbishments have been completed on two floors of the 4-star Walmont Hotel, as well as the Prive-style Manhattan lounge, at a cost of $500,000.

The renovations have given the guest rooms a new look in a palette of red, purple and grey. The cherry wood furniture has been retained and the Manhattan Casino bathroom facilities received a makeover.

The second phase is currently under way and scheduled for completion at the end of September. This will include the addition of the new Madison’s Bistro and Family Restaurant that will offer a New York loft-style dining experience for the whole family. The menu will be decidedly American with dishes such as Idaho Crispy Fried Potato Skins and Chard Texan Beef.

Other recent renovations at the property include the installation of new carpets in the Augusta Club Lounge, curtains for the 1,000-seater multi-purpose Graceland Arena, and a sprinkler irrigation system on the 18-hole Gary Player-designed golf course
