The South African Department of Health has rescinded the requirement of a yellow fever vaccination for travel between Zambia and South Africa.
The requirement was lifted on 31 January with immediate effect. The decision was made at the World Health Assembly on 30 January in Geneva (Switzerland).
The decision by SA’s health department comes after the World Health Organisation confirmed that Zambia had low yellow fever potential exposure status, which means travellers should not be required to carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
The requirement was bemoaned by the tourism industry, which suggested that it was putting travellers off the destination, especially because they could visit Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe without having a vaccination.
