Avertorial: The Maslow – Two Years of Success

413

Sun International’s Maslow Hotel celebrated its second anniversary last month. Despite being in its infant years, the hotel has firmly entrenched itself as one of the best business hotels in Gauteng, stacking up a number of awards and accolades which bear testimony to its premier service and facilities.

These include TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for 2014; the 2014 Business Traveller Africa Awards for Best Business Hotel in South Africa and Best Small Conference Venue. The Africology Spa at The Maslow also received the coveted Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Award in the Unique Spa Concept category in 2013.

“Turning two is a proud milestone for The Maslow. Not only does it mark our second year of business success, but it also heralds the start of a new era for us as we move forward as an established ‘citizen’ of the community,” says Johan Scheepers, the General Manager at The Maslow. “From the outset, we have known that our success and sustainability depends on our ability to constantly deliver premium and value-adding services, quality facilities, and a food and beverage offering that acknowledges contemporary dining trends.

“At the same time, we must help build and maintain a sustainable community, contribute to the local economy, and promote a healthy environment. We take these obligations to heart.

“Customers are the lifeblood of our business. Product and service innovation will receive increasing emphasis going forward to ensure that we remain relevant to our customers, and to ensure that we can continue contributing to the local economy as an active member of the tourism community.”

The Maslow Hotel opened for business in January 2013, following a R250-million refurbishment. Situated in the heart of Sandton’s business district – home to top investment banks, financial institutions, the Gautrain station and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange – The Maslow Hotel offers some of the best corporate facilities in Sandton, including complimentary high-speed internet access throughout the hotel, 12 meeting rooms, a conference centre, Africology Spa, gym, the unique Wayfarer Lounge, and the Lacuna Bistro.

A New Class of Hotel

The Maslow Hotel is an entirely new class of hotel, positioned to help guests to balance work and life. The concept for the hotel was inspired by the psychologist Abraham Maslow and his well-known ‘hierarchy of needs’. From the outset, the team at the hotel has applied Maslow’s straight forward approach to understanding customers’ needs in its service philosophy, to deliver an absolutely seamless experience from check-in to check-out.

The Maslow provides an environment in which ideas can be both conceptualised and realised, while enjoying beautifully-appointed rooms, an alluring bar, an urban bistro, relaxing lounges, or a soothing spa experience.

Tranquil Dining

The award-winning Lacuna Bistro and Bar’s menu reflects the ethos of the hotel. Overlooking a tranquil oasis garden, it has that X-factor; that something special that has kept it at the pinnacle of Sandton’s selection of restaurants since it opened.

Superbly-located right at Sandton’s core, guests don’t have to pay for parking, and there is a free shuttle service to the Sandton Gautrain Station and Sandton City Mall every 15 minutes. Guests can enjoy tapas-style plates as well as local, domestic and international draught and bottled beer. A select South African wine list and specialty cocktails can be enjoyed inside or outside on the terrace.

All the herbs used in Lacuna’s dishes are grown right on the premises – in a spectacular herb garden on the roof of The Maslow Hotel. Comprising raised boxes and a variety of planters, the garden boasts a variety of herbs including rosemary, sage, basil, coriander, dill, parsley and thyme, as well as a selection of fresh chillies.

The Bistro was recently acknowledged with a Diamond Award in the annual Diners Club Winelists Awards for 2014. To proudly display a Diners Club Winelist Award in their window is not an act of vanity, it is an invitation to discerning patrons to come in and enjoy a taste of greatness.

Stay and Relax

The hotel itself has 281 guest rooms; 239 luxury rooms, six family apartments with multiple interleading rooms, four junior suites, 14 luxury suites with balconies, five executive suites with separate bedroom and living room, and seven accessible rooms.

The Maslow Hotel is one of the first properties within Sun International to feature an Africology Spa. Africology is an authentic skincare brand focused on creating results-driven experiences for business travellers.

Doing Business

The Maslow Hotel’s award-winning conference centre and meeting rooms offer an unexpected oasis setting for business and social events in Sandton, with spacious facilities able to accommodate banquets for up to 400 people and cinema seating for 650 people.

The conference centre features a multi-divisible 491m² ballroom, a smaller 219m² conference room and a 50-seater auditorium. The 250m² pre-assembly area is ideal for product launches.

The separate, private meeting rooms, which are aptly named after renowned 19th century entrepreneurs, can accommodate between eight and 20 delegates for seminars, management meetings, and workshops.

And forget dull meeting food. Quality options from the hotel’s popular Lacuna Bistro menu are available in the private meeting rooms. Lacuna Bistro also has a glass-enclosed private dining room that can accommodate up to fifteen guests for a chefs table. Bespoke menus can be designed on request, and due to its locality to the show kitchen, guests also get to interact with the chef. Lacuna also offers different areas for less formal breakfast and lunch meetings.

Guests in transit can while away a few hours in the comfortable Wayfarer Business Lounge while reading the complimentary daily newspapers, or filling up on a selection of complimentary teas, coffee, muffins and fresh fruit. There is also a rejuvenating rain forest shower, fresh clean towels and luxurious bathroom amenities to wash away fatigue after a long trip, or freshen up before a late flight.

“The Maslow Hotel offers a relaxed, discreet and non-intrusive service tailor-made for the individual, where everyone feels welcome. By offering corporate facilities such as the Wayfarer Business Lounge where we also offer shower facilities for guests where they to freshen up, enjoy a fast executive breakfast option or entertain colleagues in the lobby which also has free Wi-Fi access, we give our guests modern business amenities they can depend upon,” concludes Scheepers.
