Kerzner International is a developer and operator of destination resorts, casinos and luxury resorts. The group has its roots in South Africa, but the bulk of its growth and development have taken place away from the African continent, save for three of its existing 10 properties. Now it appears to be looking closely, once again, at Africa, with Kerzner International set to expose more of the African continent to its brand of luxury hospitality, including a comprehensive and unique events offering.

In 2010, Tourvest consolidated its properties under African Hotels & Adventures (ahaGroup), the division responsible for accommodation and activities with a portfolio of properties throughout South Africa as well as in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Uganda and Kenya. The expanded ahaGroup then incorporated Relais Hotels and continued to manage and market the group’s existing portfolio while also looking at opportunities to expand the properties under management into areas of the country where Tourvest already conducts business. In 2012, the group appointed Managing Director Neil Bald who successfully restructured and centralised the core of the company. Bald chatted to Business Traveller Africa about the recent acquisition of the Three Cities Hotel Group.

When the original owners of the Lusaka Grand Hotel opened the property in 2009, they had little in the way of experience in the hospitality industry. The owners recently approached Best Western International for assistance to turn the hotel around. Michael Hunter-Smith, Sales and Marketing Director for the Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel, took some time out to answer a few questions about the hotel and the Best Western brand.
