The City Lodge Hotel Group has opened its 149-room City Lodge Hotel Waterfall City in the Midrand node between the South African cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The Waterfall City hotel is the first new South African hotel for the group since 2010.
The hotel has been developed as part of a long-term land and building lease agreement. Half of its rooms offer bathrooms with baths and showers, with the other half offering a shower-only option.
It is located at the entrance to the Waterfall City mixed-use development, about 300 metres from the Allandale off-ramp on the N1 freeway between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Waterfall City is one of Africa’s biggest multi-use property developments and is being developed around the R3.5 billion Mall of Africa shopping centre.
Work on the R130 million hotel, which boasts a ground floor and four upper levels, began in October 2013. It is the 16th City Lodge-branded hotel in the 55-hotel City Lodge Hotel Group, comprising 52 hotels in South Africa across the Courtyard, City Lodge, Town Lodge and Road Lodge brands. The group also owns three hotels in Kenya and Botswana.
