Background
One&Only Le Saint Geran is one of eight One&Only properties in the Bahamas, Dubai, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, South Africa and Australia. One&Only is a Kerzner International brand. Kerzner is a developer and operator of destination resorts, casinos and luxury resorts, with three brands – One&Only, Atlantis and Mazagan.
Where is it?
The resort is located on its own private peninsula in Poste de Flacq, in the north-east of the island. The drive to both Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the south-east and Port Louis on the west coast is approximately an hour.
Room Facilities
The 163 rooms are divided into three categories – 148 junior suites, 14 ocean suites and one villa apartment. I was accommodated in a 65m2 junior suite that included a balcony that overlooked a palm-lined and inviting beach. Simply decorated with a handful of artworks and off-white colour, the room featured a king-size bed with high quality cotton sheets, a 42-inch TV with selected satellite channels in French and English, a video player, iPod docking station, work station and a two-seater sofa. The tea and coffee area was accompanied by a bowl of assorted fresh fruits that was replenished daily. A large walk-in wardrobe housed a safe box. The bathroom was expansive and luxurious with a large bathtub with aromatherapy oils and exotic bath salts, and a separate shower housed in a transparent glass cubicle. The toilet facility offered further privacy in a narrow separate room. The resort’s complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and selected areas around the hotel, and after a simple click on the Le Saint Geran Wi-Fi prompt, I was connected. Room service is available 24 hours a day.
Restaurants & Bars
There are three restaurants in the resort. Rasoi by Vineet, open for lunch and dinner, serves Indian cuisine from acclaimed Michelin-star chef Rasoi Bhatia. La Terrasse, next to the hotel pool, serves a variety of local and international cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During dinner, guests are treated to a live band performance. The third restaurant, Prime, offers contemporary and classic cuisine for dinner only. Here I enjoyed a five-course meal including salads, tuna sashimi, almond and pumpkin ravioli, and grilled beef. It was all delicious and beautifully-prepared. Aside from the bars at each restaurant, you can enjoy a drink at the golf club and the Le Badamier bar – a cocktail bar under a tree overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Meeting & Conference Facilities
The resort’s biggest conferencing facility can accommodate 80 people theatre-style, while the boardroom can accommodate up to 12 people in a serene environment. The resort also offers a unique beach conferencing service for a laid-back and informal business and/or meetings engagement.
Leisure Facilities
One&Only Le Saint Geran offers a range of spa treatments, with a ‘mani-pedi’ studio whose personnel were handpicked and trained by the internationally-acclaimed podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez. For the golf lovers, there’s a nine-hole Gary Player-designed golf course, and it’s complimentary for resort guests. There are also various water sports on offer, including water-skiing, snorkelling and windsurfing (complimentary), catamaran sailing, stand-up paddling and kite surfing (for a fee). The fitness centre is adequately-equipped with Technogym equipment and also offers Hatha Yoga, swimming lessons and pilates for a fee. If you like the simple pleasures, there’s always the inviting beach, when you can enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks. For families with children, there’s a ‘kids and teens’ facility which provides various entertainment and educational programmes for children. The services are complimentary for kids between the ages of three and 11. Baby-sitters are available at an extra fee for children below three.
Verdict
The One&Only Le Saint Geran offers an opulent and luxurious experience that is hard to find fault with.
