Background

Opening at the end of 2009, The Davinci Hotel and Suites offers guests all the luxuries and comforts they have come to expect from Legacy’s extraordinary portfolio of hotels and resorts. With 166 en suite rooms and 54 luxury suites with wireless Internet connectivity, room service, health spa and a Legacy fitness gymnasium, there is no need to leave the hotel. However, guests are able to indulge in luxurious shopping at Sandton City a lift trip away – all affectionately referred to as the ‘Legacy Lifestyle’.

What’s it Like?

The distinctive contemporary black and white decor of The Davinci Hotel and Suites is ultra modern and stylish and is carried throughout the hotel. The stunning reception area is adjacent to the stainless steel spiral staircase that leads down to the hotel’s Maxim Lounge and its Maximillion Restaurant. Words aren’t enough to describe the beauty and decadence of the opulent rooms, pioneering fitness centre and health spa. There is nothing this hotel lacks in terms of service, style, comfort and a promise that you will return.

Where is it?

Legacy’s latest luxury Hotel and Suites development is adjacent to the prime location of Nelson Mandela Square, the fourth hotel on the cosmopolitan square in the heart of the Sandton business and leisure district, and a mere 33kms from OR Tambo International Airport.

Room Facilities

There are 166 en suite rooms and 54 luxury suites. I was fortunate enough to stay in one of the spacious en suite rooms on the 10th floor that gave me a grand view of the beautiful edge pool and pool terrace. The room comes standard with an in-room safe, full bouquet of DStv, 24-hour room service, laundry service and the standard coffee nook that includes coffee, tea and milk. The bathroom, with its mahogany accents, is separated from the room by a glass sliding door. There is a large bath and sink and sufficient storage space, while the toilet and shower are closed off by frosted glass for privacy. The plush bed is comfortable, with mahogany side tables. There is ample space to accommodate a desk/ dressing table and a large white couch next to the window. There are wheel-chair facilities available and other amenities such as fully equipped kitchens in the luxury suites.

Restaurants & Bars

Maxim Lounge bar is fast becoming recognised as one of Sandton’s most elite and exclusive whisky, wine and cigar lounges, offering an atmosphere of sophistication and elegance for those looking for a stylish venue to visit regularly. The aesthetics and decor, while emphasising that sense of luxury, is finely balanced with impeccable service to allow frequent visitors to feel at home. Legacy Hotels recently launched its brand-new eatery – Maximillien. Maximillien dishes up an exquisite epicurean experience in the comfort of a stylish yet welcoming ambience. A convivial atmosphere, warm lighting and contemporary-meets-classic aesthetic welcomes diners at the door, and is beautifully complemented by an ethic of providing a high-quality dining service to accompany fine quality food. The food can be ordered from downstairs and brought to the pool deck area or straight to your room.

Business & Meeting Facilities

The main banquet room can be subdivided into two rooms, Leonardo 1 and 2, for conferences, functions, private dining or cocktail parties. In addition, the Mona Lisa boardroom is perfect for smaller conferences or meetings for up to 12 guests. Rooms have independently controlled house lights, wall-to-wall carpeting, natural light and individually controlled air-conditioning. Audio Visual Equipment includes lectern, PA system, laser pointer, flipchart, HD LCD televisions and built in sound system. Arrangements can be made for a portable PA system, data projector, video projector, single house video projector, multiple slide shows. Additional lighting, laser light shows and other options can be discussed when booking your conference or function.

Leisure Facilities

The Davinci Hotel and Suites has one of the most lavish spas in Johannesburg. Its logo, The Flower of Life, speaks of a beauty forgotten, ready to be awakened again to revive the tired soul. Leonardo da Vinci was fascinated with the infinite perfection of this simple design and how its repetitive nature could soothe the soul. At The Davinci Spa the classical shapes and forms of The Flower of Life radiates relaxation and serenity. All spa guests are welcome to enjoy every aspect of the spa and gym facilities, the relaxation area with hydro pool, and the outdoor pool.

Verdict

The Davinci depicts class and elegance with superb service. It is the ideal location for the businessman as well as those seeking refuge for a few days.
