JKIA Terminal 4 expected to open in July

According to eTuboNews, the opening of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s Terminal 4 in Nairobi is expected to take place on 4 July.

Earlier this month issues emerged over the tender award for duty free shops in the new terminal, with the Kenyan Public Procurement Oversight Authority compelling the Kenya Airport Authority to re-tender for new bids, citing a violation of procurement rules. This is likely to set back the full functionality of the new terminal by weeks, as the bids need evaluation and time to mobilise resources, create duty free shops in the designated spaces, staff and stock them.

Although construction of the terminal has been considered slow, the fire (see story here) which destroyed the arrivals section of the airport put enough pressure on KAA and contractors to accelerate work for an early completion.
