Uniting African hospitality and European traditions, the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, Ghana marks the debut of the Kempinski luxury brand in West Africa.

The hotel is the pioneering element of the Gold Coast City development, a planned city covering 35 hectares in downtown Accra. The project is designed to become the new heart of the city, and is a symbol of the immense growth the city has experienced over the last few years.

“The name Gold Coast City was chosen as a tribute to Ghana’s long and rich heritage,” says Laurent Ebzant, General Manager of the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City. “As an economic hub with a longstanding reputation for political stability and security, Ghana is a very attractive location for development,” says Ebzant. “Although there have been some concerns about the economic challenges it has faced recently, the country has recorded sustainable GDP growth for the last eight years.”

The Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City features 269 rooms including 22 luxury suites and two presidential suites. The hotel offers four restaurants, a lobby café with outdoor seating, a cocktail bar and lounge, 7,000m2 of shopping facilities, as well as a 3,000m2 Resense Spa with 10 treatment rooms, a hair and beauty salon and health club, a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool and a tennis courts.

“Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City is more than a hotel; it is a luxury lifestyle destination that has been designed to deliver a truly unique guest experience,” says Ebzant. “Our passion for combining classic African hospitality with the finest of European hotel traditions means that each guest will experience all the comfort of European luxury delivered with the remarkable warmth Ghanaians are renowned for.”

Located in the downtown area in close proximity to the State House, the Accra International Conference Centre and the National Theatre, the hotel is the perfect place for business and leisure guests alike.

“Although we’ve already established a reputation among the locals as Accra’s newest business  hotspot, Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City is also hoping to bring more international travellers to Ghana; particularly leisure travellers from neighbouring countries,” says Ebzant.

The stylishly appointed rooms and suites, which range in size from 50m2 to 220m2, offer luxury, comfort and ultramodern amenities. Inspired by the warmth of the African sun, the accommodation features hardwood floors, gorgeous textiles and sleek silhouettes along with complimentary wi-fi, interactive TV, an in-room safe and climate control.

“Opening a Kempinski Hotel here is a clear indicator of the faith we have in Ghana’s growing popularity as a meeting and leisure destination for business travellers and tourists across the West-African sub-region. Accra is ready for 5-star luxury in the heart of the city that will bring together people from all over the city, country and the world, says Ebzant”

Dining

An essential part of any stay is the dining experience and the quality of the food and beverages on offer at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City is top notch. The hotel’s Food & Beverage outlets include the Papillon Restaurant, the Gallery Bar, the Lobby Lounge and the Cedar Garden.

“Our goal, when we created our food and beverage offering was to present a thoughtfully curated balance of local and international products which would reflect our guiding motto of combining European luxury with African hospitality,” says Ebzant. “We paid special attention to our product sourcing, insisting on only the best local and international products, and building meaningful relationships with each of our suppliers, from vegetable farmers to fishermen.”

The Papillon, with its open kitchen, is open from breakfast to dinner. As well as food from across the globe, there will also be a strong selection of wines on offer, the biggest choice of wines by the glass in the city.

The Gallery Bar is open all day, but comes to life primarily in the evening. This will be a ‘fine drinking’ experience, specialising in premium drinks and the best of European mixology.

The Lobby Lounge is a great meeting place for coffee, light snacks and afternoon tea, as well as predinner and late-night drinks.

Outside, the Cedar Garden takes inspiration from Accra’s Lebanese community and the menu includes shisha, mezzeh and Lebanese coffee.

Conferencing

Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City offers all the advanced event and conferencing facilities expected of a major international hotel, to meet the needs of today’s business guests.

“We have found that we are extremely popular with corporate groups and events, which represent about 85% of our business at the moment,” says Ebzant. “We believe that this is because of our state-of-the-art conference and event facilities which have already become the go-to location for high-profile events in the city.”

The hotel’s ballroom covers 970m2, divided between three areas and a foyer, and includes a 50m2 built-in stage. The fully-equipped, 1,750m2 conference centre offers 700m2 of outside facilities and provides state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment managed with touch panel technology. There are also six meeting rooms of between 35m2 and 100m2, including two boardroom-style meeting rooms on the second floor.

On the sixth floor, the executive lounge with two private boardrooms is reserved for suite and executive room guests.

“Our entry into Accra’s hospitality market is beneficial for all guests,” says Ebzant. “The emergence of a new player will bring about an overall rise in the quality of Accra’s hospitality offering, as existing hotels enhance their products and services to remain competitive. This means that the guests are the true winners, as standards across the city rise to meet expectations.”
