Nigeria approves Emirates flights to Kano

According to eTurboNews, the Nigerian government has approved the designation of Emirates and Turkish Airlines to Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

They will join airlines such as EgyptAir on the route.

Media co-ordinator and spokesman for Nigeria’s aviation agencies Yakubu Dati said Emirates would have to determine when it will begin the service in accordance with its own logistics.

He said: “There are issues which the airline must consider, including safety, security and profitability. On safety and security, we assure all airlines operating from Kano airport that the airport environment is safe and secure.”

The Nigerian government is looking to transform the air transport sector and make aviation a major revenue earner for airlines, other investors and government. To achieve this, it is investing in building a new international terminal in Kano that will meet globally accepted standards.
